IG&H supports De Persgroep taking a bold decision

September 2009 Belgian newspaper company De Persgroep announced the decision to close their Rotterdam printing facility. This was the conclusion of a process where traditional boundaries were pushed. Earlier that year, De Persgroep asked IG&H Consulting to perform an independent study on the future options for their Dutch printing facilities. The study showed significant improvement potential in the existing facilities. Realising this potential however, would require a different way of thinking and strong management determination. Management, employees and especially the workers council had to be convinced. De Persgroep was determined and IG&H helped them to reach their ambitious goal.

In the first half of 2009, De Persgroep acquired a majority stake in PCM and AD Nieuwsmedia. With these acquisitions, De Persgroep acquired three printing facilities in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Den Haag. Steadily declining newspaper circulation in The Netherlands, discontinuation of a newspapers (Dag en Sportwereld), and lower advertisement income due to the economic crisis forced De Persgroep to take action. Closing the facility significantly reduces printing (over)capacity and running costs and enables De Persgroep to stay ahead of the game.
